FROM THE EDITOR
This Stock Photo News will be short and sweet
as many tasks are forehand before the summer
holyday for many.
The financial and general economical crisis
isn’t over for certain. But how deep and how long it
will continue is hidden for us at the moment.
But for sure we have to be careful. So what can we do?
To get a competitive advantage in the global and
national arena we should try to be in front of
the trends and to make more out of less. Simple to
say – not so easy to achieve. But important tips
are mentioned in the following.
- so read, print and keep.
Enjoy reading Stock Photo News!

EXPECTED TRENDS OF CONCEPTUAL IMAGES
As the crises continues with negative implications
for many consumers we can speculate over what that
will mean for the demand and use of pictures.
Here are some possible trends:
The growing complexity of the world and daily life
of people might impose a trend to concentrate on the
not so complicated sides of life. We know that the
quest for amusement is often increased under times
of depression.
Visits to cinemas, restaurants, entertainment and
other easy going activities might be more popular.
So be prepared with fresh picture material of such
situations.
Happy family life might also be a focus point, despite
effects of unemployment and economic downturn might
counteract.
The ‘myself in focus’ trend might be further strengthened
with focus on media success and the like as some of
the concrete outcomes. The increased use of social
media is an obvious indication.
I have earlier mentioned the potential of offering to
take portraits especially efficient for the ‘face in
social media’. – This is about how to stand out, and
how to look with credibility.
With the flood of books on personal development and
the self-help industry we have another important
trend worth while to be aware of. The ever growing
industry of alternative treatment – a rather depressing
sign from the point of view of rationality and scientific
justification – but a trend that you can profit from
with pictures. – And herbs of all kinds seem to possess
an over-natural potential to cure and the help people.
The growing number and ratio of senior citizens has
been in focus for a long time but as some countries
have had to reduce their public spending to healthcare,
pensions and social support we might expect further
demand on the positive as well as the negative sides
of becoming old.
Finally I will mention the growing acceptance of the
shift in psychology and therapy to the mantra of
positive emotions and positive psychology. Surely this
will be a field in growing demand for illustration and
publications in the future.
The more you can combine some of these trends the more
successful you might be on the marketplace as an image
provider or publisher.

PICTURES ON WEBSITES – FOR WEBMASTERS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS
Here I will direct you to three helpful articles
by Sandra Niehaus,
published recently in the ezine of Ralph F. Wilson
‘Web Marketing Today’.
They are:
How to Choose Effective Website Photos and Images. Part 1
By Sandra Niehaus,
Closed Loop Marketing http://www.closed-loop-marketing.com
She is covering some general principles to consider when
selecting images for websites, including the image's mood,
uniqueness, content quality, and contextual cropping.
Sandra is among other thoughtful things pointing to the
failure of using micro stock pictures which are too popular
on websites. What she isn’t mentioning is that really many
successful pictures at the micro stock agencies are sold
from many websites.
You find it here:

How to Choose Effective Website Photos and Images. Part 2
By Sandra Niehaus
Closed Loop Marketing http://www.closed-loop-marketing.com
Here she discusses ways to use images to support and
reinforce a business brand online – e.g. the colour.
She is providing convincing examples and pictures.

The Human Face. How to Choose Effective Website Photos and Images,
Part 3
By Sandra Niehaus
Closed Loop Marketing http://www.closed-loop-marketing.com
The question of faces is a tricky thing – and may not be taken
seriously enough.
Sandra is giving examples, too, of situations where the face
might be a distracter.
Remember that small changes on a website can have profound
effects of the efficiency of its communication and accordingly
on the sales.

ARTICLE MARKETING, AGAIN AND AGAIN
As you might recall I have often been advocating article
marketing as one of the best and cheapest ways of online marketing.
This is still the case but it has also become more competitive.
This means that you need to know very well what you are doing to
get the best results.
My own guide to understand the game of article marketing has
for years been Tim Gorman, a helpful and generous figure in the
online marketing community. I normally get hold of all his
offerings.
He has now an attractive bundle of helpful materials - just
follow a few of his tips and you will improve your results for sure.

SINCE LAST SPN
It has been a long lapse since my last issue of SPN, due to
reorientation of my work efforts, partly because of the
changing economic scene. As usual my time has been divided
between work in my home country Denmark and travels abroad.
These have in the period included Iceland, Sweden, Cape Verde
Islands and Thailand.
A big event was the wedding of my oldest daughter Rikke
(second round) in the spring and her family is now including
five nice children with their busy parents. Do I need to say
that they need a helping hand from me now and then?
See you in next SPN.
